New Job...

Good news all! I recently accepted a new position....I know you will all be disappointed to find out it is in banking and not consulting, but the position is a great fit for me. As a result, I won't be making a lot of personal posts regarding my experiences in the quest for a job in consulting. I will, however, continue to maintain the blog if you all believe that it is helpful....this would mean that I would rely more heavily on requests for content as well as you all sharing your experiences with me so that I can share them with others.

From the emails I'm receiving, it seems like there are a lot of folks with offers and/or moving on to the next rounds in the interview process...seems like we might have a lot of offers handed out this year...GOOOOOOD LUCK!

  7. I've read through your blog and just wanted to say Congrats! A lot of the times in life we try to pursue one thing and end up with something else. There's nothing wrong with that.

I've worked in management consulting at a big four firm for three years and come to the realization that it wasn't for me. Having to deal with the egos, everyone trying to outshine each other, billable vs. actual working hours, constant travel to crazy boring cities where you'll spend many nights eating alone or stuck in your hotel room... sometimes you need to stop and ask yourself if that's what you really want in life?

You've mentioned previously that the folks that greeted/interviewed you at the firms were always super nice, friendly and sincere - but that's in fact the game face that is required. It's what's expected of you when you go out and meet clients. Back in the office everyone gets along but when it comes down to cases and projects, don't be surprised if your colleague suddenly decides to steal your credit or rip into you in front of a Partner.

Nonetheless it's purely character building and a good learning experience. I hope everything works out well for you!
