McKinsey 3rd Round Invites

PLEASE DON'T JUST READ-PARTICIPATE:

As you all may have seen, there is quite a discussion going back and forth in the comments section of the last post (caseinterview.com). What we are starting to see is a number of people are hearing back from McKinsey with the results of their 2nd round interviews.

If you feel comfortable discussing the outcome from your interview, please help us keep a running tally...might give us all a better idea of how they might be viewing hiring this year. Additionally, if you received a phone call from one of the consultants you interviewed with...please feel free to share the feedback you were given...I'm sure that will also help the group as a whole!

I will keep a running total at the bottom of this post--keep your eyes open for updates

So far the total that I have from those who have responded:

2 moving on to next round

15 rejected

  2. I was wondering, since McK sent us the list of all the 2nd round candidates who would like to share their contacts (69 people on the list i think), I assume it's OK for us to contact each other.

Maybe we can set up an anonymous and maybe private poll and send the link to all the 2nd round candidates to know how many people have got the response and what officers they will be interviewing with. It'll be interesting even just for the sake of statistics.

  3. That's not a bad idea if you could do a surveymonkey poll or something like that...I'm not really up for putting that together, but I'd love to see the results!

  4. If someone is interested in putting together a private and anonymous poll, I would be glad to supply my half of the contact list. I was in the first IWIA group (Wed and Thurs--40ish people on list).

  5. I was rejected by telephone last night.

  6. I received bad news by phone this morning.

  7. Wow...I'm surprised phone calls are being made on a Saturday....best of luck with your next sets of interviews...I'm sure this experience will be useful for all of us, regardless of the outcomes of these interviews.

  8. I have 70 persons in the list. My IWIA was on the last day.

  9. Hi, question for those who received an invitation to move to the 3rd round:

Did they specify which office you'll be interviewing with in the congratulatory call or will there be a second call with the office location info?

I'm curious whether they call you as soon as you pass through or they wait until they determine which office you'll be interviewing with.

    Thanks!

  10. From the one responder...sounds like they gave an office location and interview date in their "congrats" call.

Thank you for a fantastic profiling of the skills & resources necessary for a management consultant. I am a PhD in Engineering but did all my research in materials physics. I am employed at present, however, it has been a while since I graduated.

I am not sure if M/B/B look into non-fresh graduates with broad post-doctoral experience. Nevertheless, I am interested in preparing for Case Interviews and would like to join/participate in the Harvard Consulting Club. What is the best way to approach the present members/officers of HCC?

    Thanks.

  13. There have not been any more updates since Saturday morning. hmm..
You would think they would call the ones that were rejecting sooner than others, as they wouldn't have to worry about the logistics of scheduling the next round of interviews.
Could, not having heard yet, be a good sign after all?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Perhaps it could be, although I'm not reading anything into timing any more. I think it is probably mostly dependent upon the individual consultant who is supposed to call you back and their schedule!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Could it also be driven by what deadlines one mentioned in the form that they gave at the interviews? I remember they asked if there were any time constraints concerning other offers.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I think which day you are going to know the result has more to do with what offices you chose. and the exact time will depend on the schedule of the consultant who is calling you. in any case, this waiting game is really torturing. hopefully we can get the call, good or bad news, by the end of today.....

    ReplyDelete
  17. To Anonymous (@1:34 PM):

The office you chose would be a factor in the timing of the result ONLY if you passed the second round.

I would think that the ones that are being dinged should hear soon enough - depending on the schedule of the consultant calling them.

  18. hmm.. No other updates after Saturday..

Folks, please write in if you have heard back.

  19. I have my APD second round interview coming up this Thursday in NY. It seems like Boston's on an earlier cycle. One question though, NY APD had 4 weeks between 1st and 2nd round interview - was that the same case for the other APD cycles?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Boston was 1 week between 1st and 2nd round.

  21. Considering:
    Have you heard?
All my theories about how/when they will call are down the drain.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Considering:
    Sorry to hear that.
Doesn't look good for the rest of us.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Considering, I'm very sorry to hear that. I think you definitely deserve moving to the next round. I guess I should be expecting the bad news to come soon:(. Btw, do you mind sharing which offices you chose?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Offices were Cleveland, Boston, West Coast...I just got a voice mail..I will call them back this afternoon and let you know what kind of feedback I received. Hopefully it will be helpful to everyone else!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Considering:
Did you rate all three of the offices you mentioned, 1? Did you have other offices that "you might consider"?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Rejected. Feedback really unclear. Seemed like the caller had nothing to say.

    ReplyDelete
  27. From what I heard, most of the time, you either get your first choice, or you get rejection.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Anonymous (11:56AM):

Sorry to hear about your rejection. It seems that the ones that are moving on, have all been called before today.

For the rest of us that haven't heard yet, it seems REJECT is going to be the word.

How would rate your performance on the three cases and in the two exp interviews?

    ReplyDelete
  29. I missed the chance to ask when you can reapply. If anyone can ask it and share information, it would be great.

    ReplyDelete
  30. You can reapply after 18 months.

  31. So had the APD second round on 11th and heard nothing so far (saturday afternoon). know someone who got a rejection call on friday afternoon. what has been the experience so far?

Anyone who interviewed 11-12th and got an invite for third round?

I used to assume that it wasn't bad if you don't hear right away but from what I read here, that's irrelevant.

Thanks and good luck to all.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I interviewed on the 12th and haven't heard back yet. Is anyone else still waiting to hear?

    ReplyDelete
  33. I interviewed on the 11th in NY... No word yet. I guess I either bombed so bad they won't even bother to call or they are still arguing whether it is a yay or nay...

Have you heard whether others have heard? I talked to 4-5 people who got a no either on the 13th or 16th of November.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I don't know anyone besides myself who interviewed on the 11th/12th (I'm the one who posted at 10:54am today, above). My interview was also in NYC.

It's odd - I also didn't get a response to any of the four thank you emails I sent. I received "nice meeting you" responses to both my thank you emails from the first round. I still think I did well, though. Perhaps someone involved in getting back to us has the flu or vacation.

    ReplyDelete
  35. This is the 10:45 again. (I'll call myself 10:45 and you 2:47). Do you know if those 4-5 people heard by phone or email? Do you know anyone who heard a yes?

    -10:45

    ReplyDelete
  36. Hmm... Haven't heard of anyone who got a yes but I haven't talked to that many people. All the no-s were by phone.

Weird... I didn't get any responses to my thank you notes either and had the same experience re:the first round thank you notes as you did.

Well I guess they told us that if we don't hear by the 23rd, we should get in touch with Liz.

Did you interview the morning or afternoon session on the 11th? I wonder if its the same person who hasn't had the time to call either of us.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I interviewed in the afternoon of the 12th (not the 11th). It being the same person would make sense. Hopefully we'll hear soon... I hadn't heard about the 23rd being the date to get in touch with Liz; I'm glad you mentioned that. I was debating getting in touch sooner, because I didn't know we'd been given a date. Thanks!

  38. Well let's hope this doesn't mean a definite ding for both of us. Good luck!

  39. Good luck to you, too!

  40. McK Process:

    Hi Guys,

Any of you ever heard of a situation like mine? Here goes: So I am an experienced individual (4 years out of grad school) and I did a phone screen in early Oct. In mid Oct I did a coaching session and was told to brush up on my structuring. It's now been 5 weeks and no further news. Is this normal? I am now getting worried that the cycle is coming to an end.
